5+: Can play independently
How to play
-
Take Turns Drawing Lines:
Players take turns drawing one line at a time. You can draw a line between two dots that are right next to each other, but only horizontally or vertically (not diagonal).
-
Complete a square:
If you draw the fourth side of a square, you win a point. Keep track of how many squares you completed by writing your initial inside.
-
Earn Another Turn:
If you complete a box, you get an extra turn! Keep drawing lines until you can’t complete any more boxes, then it’s the next player’s turn.
-
Play Until the Grid Is Full:
Keep going until all the dots have been connected and no more lines can be drawn.
How to win
When all the squares are completed, count how many squares each player completed. The player with the most boxes wins! If it's a tie, you both win! Have fun connecting the dots and making squares!
Variations
For younger players or to get started with the game it can be useful to reduce the size of the grid that can be used. You can do this by simply drawing a boundary within the main grid area. Try starting out with a 4x4 grid and gradually increase the size to extend game play or to cater for more players.
